Ian started as stage actor/ music artist on school stage at an early age of eight years. Written &Directed stage plays at the age of 16-17 in both church and school.
At the age of 17yrs he was working as runner at his cousin’s Home & Commercial video studio “Done studios” where he become better in music video Story board construction.
2007 vacation holiday, he applied for Maisha Film Training Program where he was taken on to train in film directing.
After the training lab in early 2008 he did his first film project. This short film “SHOMILU” went ahead to win a short film award at Euro- Africa film festival. Shomilu was a film about female circumcision.
Late 2008 after a training program in documentary making he did his first documentary film, “BE GREAT WRITER”. Exploring a young woman’s life from a poor background with a dream of being a writer.
And then in December 2008 he was called back at Done studiosto direct a romantic short film “Jescalioty”.
Early 2009 his comic short film script about a pregnant woman was selected for a screenwriting training resident program in Zanzibar. This same year IAN was studyingonline Movie business/Marketing. Which led to establishing of his tv& film marketing company, got his first marketing project, the most famous Ugandan movie. “IMANI”. The film screened to more than 28 international film festivals. Including Berlin International film festival in early 2010. The film has now won 10 international film festivals.
In 2011-2013 Ian was a Ground- Producer for DSTV (Mnet Africa) Doc series, The HISTORY OF AFRICAN CINEMA…The show was filmed all over Africa and interviewed Africa’s best Film Makers such Mira Nair (Founder Maisha Film Lab).
In the recent years Ian Mark Kimanje has produced content for European Union, For United Nations, Promo videos for Heineken Beer and many others
He currently developing and producing children’s televisions series for African market and co-productions in Australia.
Ian has been involved in many film initiatives, as a co-founder of Uganda Film festivalinternational, Euro-Kampala Film Festival, Board member Afrika Art Collective, Former board member of Arterial networkUganda chapter and runs a production company that works within East African Region, “Film Garage Studioz” www.filmgaragestudios.org
